IT648/Group 1 - Project 3 Reflection

Finding asynchronous and synchronous communication tools that could be used in online classes was the essence of Project 3. We searched for free downloads that were easily used and not too difficult to incorporate within online classes. Interaction among the students and between teacher and students can be achieved in a variety of ways using this type of technology. I think perhaps the most uninteresting one is Twitter. Following these postings is difficult for me. In my opinion, such random and unimportant statements are made that I wonder what the excitement is all about. Texting on a cell phone is not my preferred method of communicating, so Twittering is lacking in appeal for me.

Skype certainly is a possibility for personal use, but I wonder if I would ever use it in the classroom. Perhaps instructors could use it to communicate and share information, but the application of this technology into a learning environment isn't as likely as Wimba or Gmail video chat would be. I think the possibility of being charged for Skype calls would prevent me from using it regularly.

Until a few short weeks ago, I had never taken the time to become acquainted with technology which is only a click away. Can you believe it? Now I am even checking on the availability of Wimba on my campus for the implementation of video and audio chat in my online classes this fall. Wow! I've come a long way, Baby!

  1. You are progressing wonderfully!! I also disliked twitter. I LOVE to text!! but even I had problems following discussions. I did not like the randomness of the site.

The idea of being charged, was a big downfall to me using skype as well. I also do NOT like the idea of something hacking my computer. That is what it sounded like when we were told that Skype changes all numbers on your computer even when you are not trying to use it. That sounds too much like a hack or virus to me, I would never use it.

I love Wikispaces but hate that it is blocked on my school computers. My students could never use it.
